Glacial Topography
Glacial Topography explores the sculptural surface of Alaskan glaciers, shaped by pressure, gravity, and time. Captured during an extended aerial flight in early summer, the series follows a shift in light—from the stark clarity of midday to the warmer, low-angled glow of the Arctic evening. Each scene is transformed by this gradual transition, revealing different layers, textures, and tonal nuances.
The images showcase fractured geometry and flowing lines—ridges, crevasses, meltwater streams, and sediment traces arranged in complex, evolving formations. In this season of near-endless daylight, I was drawn to the tension between order and disarray: harsh ruptures meet snow-covered curves; smooth surfaces contrast with jagged textures. These abstract patterns offer a glimpse into the silent transformation of glacial landscapes—at once monumental and fragile, frozen yet in constant motion.
